About Baby Sign Time

Baby Sign Time has come a long way since it started 2 years ago with 8 mums and babies in the children's section at Prestbury Library, Cheltenham.  We now provide baby signing classes to more than 80 babies and their parents every week in Cheshire, deliver training packages to a wide variety of child-care establishments, entertain at parties, hold regular sessions for babies in nurseries, we run free rhyme-time sessions in libraries in the summer holidays - we're busier than ever! We even managed to squeeze in filming a DVD this year - the first of many, we hope!

Baby Sign Time was started in 2007 by paediatric Speech and Language Therapist Liz Syed. Liz graduated from Manchester University with a degree in German and Linguistics, then spent time travelling the world before studying to become a Speech and Language Therapist at City University, London, qualifying in 1999.

As a Speech & Language Therapist Liz has worked with children and adults with all sorts of communication difficulties. Signing systems are often used by Speech Therapists as signing is so beneficial to language development, and Liz started to sign with her own two children when they were babies. She took Reuben to the zoo when he was 12 months and felt very proud as he signed all the animals that he saw!

With experience and knowledge of the benefits of signing on both a professional and personal level, Liz is incredibly enthusiastic about baby signing, and encourages anyone with a baby or toddler to come along for a free trial and give it a go! Once you've experienced your baby or toddler signing, you'll be totally hooked!
